The Port of Tarragona’s Open Catalan Service
The Open Catalan Service (Servei Obert de Català - SOC) is a service with resources for learning the Catalan language and is characterised by the fact that the learner can set the schedule, the learning goals (a self-learning course or a course in person or on line) and the pace of study. It can be used by all the staff of the Port of Tarragona. This service provides a selection of the main Catalan self-learning materials, and offers the possibility of learning Catalan when and how the learner wishes, and where the user can find a number of resources and materials for learning Catalan and an adviser who guides and advises them. Self-learning is a system designed to learn Catalan more quickly, if you wish to refresh your knowledge of the Catalan language, maintain the knowledge you have acquired, don't have a fixed schedule for study, or have not found any course that will suit you for reasons of place, time, level, etc.
Resources you can find: computer programs, audio and video tapes, reference books (grammar books and dictionaries), recorded dictations, self-correcting exercise cards, examples and guidelines for those preparing to take Catalan tests, and self-assessment methods.

NITS DE LA LLENGUA AL MÓN DIGITAL (Language nights for the digital world) - #Viquillengua7x7
For the first time the seven Catalan-speaking territories will take part in the VII Language Wikimarathon in Alghero, Andorra, Catalonia, Northern Catalonia, the Eastern Strip of Aragon, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Country.
This year’s edition will be held online from 6 to 13 November and is dedicated to Catalan linguists. The idea is to complete Wikipedia articles in Catalan that compile information about linguists, including Catalanophiles all over the world.
Because of the pandemic, the Wikimarathon will be held online and will encompass a week of activities on social media with the hashtag #Viquillengua7x7. It is organised by the Department of Culture through the General Directorate of Language Policy and Amical Wikimedia.
PLE PEL CATALÀ AL CAMP DE TARRAGONA (ASSEMBLY FOR CATALAN LANGUAGE AT TARRAGONA AREA)
Assembly for Catalan Language at Tarragona Area brings together a very extensive assembly of institutions and organisations involved in promoting the Catalan language, either by exercising their natural activity or by providing it with explicit support.
This second group includes, among others, the Port Authority of Tarragona. The aim of these organisations is to contribute to the establishment of an effort that is as collaborative as possible in the sense of sharing the maximum amount of information, experiences and resources in order to create a network whose presence will at the same time be felt in the social fabric of the Tarragona area.
VOLUNTARIAT PER LA LLENGUA (VOLUNTEERING FOR THE LANGUAGE)
'Volunteering for the language' aims to put people who want to practise Catalan in contact with people who want to devote a few hours of their time to help them practise it. In this way, those who learn practise and the volunteer gets used to not changing language when spoken to in a language other than the Catalan. At the Port of Tarragona we have been working on this programme since December 3rd 2012, in conjunction with the Centre de Normalització Lingüística de Tarragona (Tarragona Language Use Standarisation Centre).
If you would like to become a volunteer, please contact this Language Service.
